In collaboration with the Institute of Pharmacology at the University of the Saarland in Homburg/ we cloned a highly calcium- selective chanel (TRPV6), localized on chromosome 7. TRPV6 is not expressed in most of normal human tissue including the prostate but is unregulated in prostate cancer. TRPV6 transcripts correlate significantly with Gleason score, pathological stage und extraprostatic extension and tumor progression. As functional calcium chanel TRPV6 may represent a promising target for novel therapeutic strategies.
